Violence has become our first choice for conflict resolution in America today
This is true from the White House to our house and in every neighborhood across the country.
The epidemic of violence cannot be thwarted by laws, conferences or rallies. Sufficient laws are already on the books, conferences only make us feel better and rallies just give us the opportunity to hang out with other folk who are as frustrated as we are.
Unfortunately, violence is not a new phenomenon.
The pages of history catalogue acts of violence down through the ages from Adam and Eve to last evening’s news. The only difference is that it has become so pervasive in our society that we have become numb to it.
The Apostle Paul wrote these words in a letter to the Church at Ephesus:
Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against [f]flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
What Paul is saying is that our enemy is not in a form that we can see; he’s not even located where you see his evil activities unfolding.
Scripture says all the killings, all the division and all the arguments are visible on your street, but they are all being orchestrated in “heavenly places”.
So, if you want to achieve victory without violence, we must do two things.
First, we must recognize that the battle is not yours; it’s the Lord’s. Finally, job is to put on all of God’s Armor and to stand against the enemy’s tricks.
Blessings,
Pastor
