Pastor's Corner – Feb 23, 2023
Have you been following the discussions about revivals breaking out – first on the campus of Asbury University in Kentucky and more recently at Reid Chapel on the campus of Samford University here in Birmingham?
Both locations have experienced great stirrings of the Holy Spirit.
They have witnessed around the clock non-stop worship for the last two to three weeks. Revivals like these have broken out in the past; however, the Asbury and Samford events are different. The stirring is not connected to a single preacher but to students and worship itself. Prophecy speaks of events like these and whenever I read Acts 2 and the Book of Joel, I tremble. I don’t tremble for fear, but for joy as I see the promises of God being revealed in my lifetime. If you haven’t done so already, you owe it to yourself to read Acts 2 and all three chapters of the short book of Joel. And if you really want to immerse yourself in the season of Lent which we’re about to enter, consider Googling “Asbury Revival”. If you do this, let me know what you think.
Speaking of Lent, this Wednesday is Ash Wednesday and it so happens that our youth will be gathering at the Church this Wednesday for a meal, fellowship and worship. This is not just for Faith Church Youth. It is our sincere hope that the Spirit of the Lord will draw young people from all over Birmingham…and who knows, maybe revival will break out at Faith Church.
Saturday, our Kingdom Building men will enjoy breakfast at the Hoover Golden Coral at
8:00 a.m. This will be the first time for our guys to get together this year, so we’re looking for a huge crowd and it should be a powerful time of sharing.
Our Sunday teaching will focus on another need for spiritual growth – water to drink. Ever had that dried up feeling, desperate for a drink? It’s easy for Christians to get dried up’, that’s why we need the Holy Spirit.
Jesus gave us the invitation to drink of the Holy Spirit (see John 7:37-39), and we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit because he gives us the power and guidance we need to live the Christian life God’s way. See what the Bible says: Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18).
Finally, we’ve been enjoying the weekly Black History moments each Sunday. Don’t miss this Sunday’s presentation!
Blessings,
Pastor
