Pastor's Corner – August 16th, 2022
The children are back in school, the Friday night sky seems a little brighter as high school athletes return to the field and college teams once again own our Saturdays.
Almost like clockwork, fall has arrived and for the first time in months, temperatures around Birmingham to hover just under the 90-degree mark as opposed to triple digits. I love this time of year!
Just to say a final so long to summer, Beverly and I made a quick get-away to Pensacola Beach right after Church last Sunday. Although we enjoy trips with our children and grands, it was kind of cool just the two of us. We even did some exploring – we drove to Dauphin Island. It was a pleasant journey but we’ll probably enjoy boring places like that more when we’re older – ha!ha!
Over the past several Sundays, I’ve been trying to answer the question, “Why do we do the things we don’t want to do”. Of course, this is the theme addressed by Paul in Romans Chapter 7. He even takes his search into Romans chapter 8. Like Bev’s and my side-trip to Dauphin Island, I did not intend to spend a month in the book of Romans; however, the more I dug into this letter, the more God has shown me about His precious promises and His divine purposes. So, if you don’t mind, I’ll travel just a bit further into this amazing book. Sunday’s message will be entitled, “The Rest of Romans”. During this side trip, we’ll see what revelation God has for us from this great book.
Speaking of travel – welcome back to the Smoke family! We look forward to having them back with the team. I’m so proud of those amazing volunteers who filled in for them on the Hebrews Coffee Ministry, the A/V team and in other slots.
By the way, this Saturday, the Leaf Food Pantry will be open to the community and we could use some additional volunteers. Would you consider helping out?
Blessings,
Pastor
